Elcometer SSP or Soluble Salt Profiler. We use this nifty equipment to find out whether or not our material is affected by larger quantities of chlorides. It is possible that during a vessel’s voyage, seawater finds its way through the hatch covers and into to hold, affecting the steel.
If left unattended this will cause the steel to further rust and corrosion will be inevitable.
So when we encounter steel cargo with signs of high salinity we can take necessary steps to ensure the cargo is still fit for use and does not diminish in value.
